The Davy Building is primarily used for teaching and research in the field of chemistry and related sciences. It houses laboratories, lecture halls, and facilities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, offering a dynamic and immersive learning environment.
Situated at the heart of the city-centre campus , the building is named in honour of Sir Humphry Davy, a renowned chemist and inventor who hailed from the city of Plymouth.

Many of our courses are underpinned by a significant element of practical classes and fieldwork. They are designed to meet the needs of industry and commerce and an emphasis on experiential learning aims to equip our students with the skills required for the workplace.

A dedicated laboratory for the analysis of a wide range of sample types, including waters, soils, sediments, terrestrial, fresh water and marine biota, for their elemental content by ICP-MS and ICP-OES.

Comprises analytical instrumentation in three laboratories for the separation, detection, identification and quantification of volatile and semi-volatile organic molecules.

Focusses on sensor development, automated analysis and wireless networks for environmental monitoring of air, soil and water quality.
The University is committed to discouraging the use of private cars, however, it continues to permit very limited car parking on campus for staff and visitors who hold a blue badge.
Only students with mobility impairment will normally be permitted to park on the Plymouth campus.
The University operates a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) enforcement system to assist in maintaining an orderly and safe parking facility on its campus. The enforcement system is managed and operated in partnership with First parking LLP and the security department at the University.
Alternative parking can be found in Drake Circus shopping mall and the Regent Street car park nearby. Charges apply.
